It barely feels like the spring field season had finished, and all of a sudden we are coming to the end of the fall field season here in Kluane country. I arrived in camp on August 23rd and have been leading the core crew of squirrelers as head field technician, a new role for me and one that has proved to be both challenging and rewarding. We are in the midst of assessing the contents of each squirrel’s midden in our study population, which involves many hours of digging through the cold damp dirt beneath the soft mountains of cone bracts left behind from thousands of squirrel dinners. I’m also finding the balance between being a leader and taking time for my own graduate work. Of course, it’s all made even better by being situated in what I would argue is the most stunning wilderness on Earth.
To another season that will soon be in the books!
